Food waste tracking
globalfoodprint
Know what you throw. Save what matters.
A tool for professional kitchens that tracks food waste in real time – turning what ends up in the bin into clear data on money lost, CO₂ emitted and ingredients wasted. Simple to use. Powerful to act on.
← All projectsThe problem
Every kitchen wastes more than it realises.
Food waste is one of the biggest hidden costs in hospitality, healthcare and education – yet most kitchens have no system to measure it.
Without data, there's no awareness. Without awareness, nothing changes. Most of it is preventable – if you can see it.
How it works
Three simple steps.
Weigh it
A scale and a tablet are placed in your kitchen. After each service, staff weigh the leftovers before they go in the bin. It takes seconds.
Tag it
Staff select a reason for the waste directly on the tablet – too much portion, spoiled, wrong storage, breakage, and more. No paperwork, no guesswork.
Learn from it
Chefs and managers see live statistics: what was thrown away, when, why – and exactly how much it cost in euros, kilograms and CO₂. Planning gets smarter with every service.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to set up?
Very little time. The hardware – a tablet and a Bluetooth scale – is simple to install, and the app is ready to use from day one. No IT department needed, no lengthy onboarding.
Do we need to train our kitchen staff?
The workflow is intentionally minimal. After each service, staff weigh the waste and select a reason on the tablet. It takes seconds and requires no technical knowledge.
Can we customise the product and recipe list to match our kitchen?
Yes. You set up your own library of products and recipes so the data always reflects what your kitchen actually works with.
What happens if we lose our internet connection?
The app works fully offline. All data is saved locally on the tablet and syncs automatically as soon as connectivity is restored.
Who can access the reports?
Reports are available via a web dashboard with role-based access from any browser. Chefs review kitchen-level data, while managers or procurement see broader trends.
What exactly does the data show?
Waste broken down by product, reason and time period – in kilograms, euros and CO₂ equivalent. This makes it easy to spot patterns.
Do we need to buy special hardware?
You need a compatible tablet and a Bluetooth scale. We can advise on recommended hardware during onboarding; in many cases you may already have suitable devices.
Is there a minimum contract length?
This is something to discuss with our team – contact us and we'll find an arrangement that suits your setup and scale.
Does the tool tell us what to change?
The tool gives you the visibility; your team makes the decisions. The data shows where waste is coming from, so portions, storage or purchasing can be adjusted based on facts.
What languages does the app support?
Currently English, German and Greek, with more languages planned. The staff-facing interface is built around pictures and icons – no reading required.
